The weekend of Feb. 23-24 will be busy and entertaining at Surrey Arts Centre with one family-friendly theatre show and two concerts by tribute bands.
First up on Friday, Feb. 23 is a performance in the 402-seat Main Stage theatre by West Coast Chicago, playing music made famous by pop-rock hitmakers Chicago, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers.
Performed live with visuals, all the horns and no pre-recorded tracks, West Coast Chicago kicks off a Feelin’ Stronger Every Day tour with live versions of “Saturday In The Park,” “25 or 6 to 4,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” and other songs from the 1960s through ’90s.
Metro Vancouver-based West Coast Chicago is led by music director Paul Clarke, a North Delta resident and business owner. He’s joined by Mon Gonzales (guitar), Scott Driscoll (vocals), horn players Greg Farrugia, Garth Balint and Graham Howell, Arne Eigenfeldt (bass) and Mike Crean (drums).
Their all-Chicago concert is presented by The Agency. Check out promo videos on westcoastchicago.com and look for tickets on tickets.surrey.com ($59 each), or call the Surrey Arts Centre box office, 604-501-5566.
Formed in 1967 as Chicago Transit Authority, the band name was later shortened to Chicago and became synonymous with multi-platinum albums and top-10 hits. Chicago was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
On Saturday, Feb. 24, at Surrey Arts Centre’s Main Stage, tribute band Coast to Coast debuts with the hard-rock music of The Scorpions, UFO and Michael Schenker Group. Mountain Entertainment presents the concert, a fundraiser with net proceeds to Surrey Food Bank.
Meantime, The Wonderheads production of “The Wilds” will be staged twice in the arts centre’s Studio Theatre, at 8 p.m. nightly on Feb. 23-24 (Friday/Saturday). The show is recommended for viewers aged eight and older.
”When Wendell discovers that both his wife and their beloved tree have vanished from the backyard, he must venture into The Wilds and face its mysteries to bring them home,” says a post on tickets.surrey.ca.
“Charming and profoundly moving, this wordless award-winning show features Wonderheads’ signature masks along with dazzling puppetry that moves its audiences to both laughter and tears. Made for adults by kids at heart, this show is a little dark and a little light.”
