The Museum of Surrey will host several events celebrating B.C. Seniors’ Week.

Free activities will run from June 4 - 9 at the museum in Cloverdale.

First up, a talk called “Brief History of Cloverdale” will be given on June 4 from 3 - 4 p.m.

“Bring a friend for this seated accessible tour led by the Surrey Archives team,” notes a press release from the Museum of Surrey. There will be free tea and snacks at the talk and a Q&A will follow the main presentation. Participants must pre-register.

On June 6, the museum is bringing in the Kent Street Players. The White Rock-based theatre group will perform short plays in the museum lobby between 1 - 4 p.m.

The Museum of Surrey will conclude its Seniors’ Week activities with a “Tea & Tour” on June 7. Two sessions will be held, one from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and another from 2 - 4 p.m.

The press release encourages museum-goers to “bring a friend and enjoy a tour of our heritage buildings followed by tea and treats.”

There will also be special performances by The Re-enactors on June 7. The re-enactment group plays characters based on real citizens from the history of the Surrey.

“Attending the city’s major events, each of the historical characters has a poignant part in Surrey’s past,” notes an entry on surrey.ca. “Portrayed by actors who do not break character, they are a troupe to behold.”

Both sessions are free, but participants must pre-register.

According to the government’s Office of the Seniors Advocate, B.C. Seniors’ Week “is a time to celebrate seniors and their many contributions – providing an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the integral part seniors play in communities across British Columbia.”

B.C. Seniors’ Week was first proclaimed in 2002 and takes place every year during the first week of June.
