Surrey Libraries presents “An Evening of Knitting” on Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Centre Library, located at 10350 University Dr.

Knitters of all ages and levels are welcome to come share their knitting knowledge and experience with others and get individual assistance from guest expert, Julia Sharpe, who teaches beginner and advanced classes at Urban Yarns.

“I discovered my entrepreneurial spirit at an early age, selling my handmade creations at Crescent Beach as a kid,” she said.

Sharpe has a certificate in Fashion Design from Vancouver Community College, a certificate in Textile Arts from the University of the Fraser Valley and is midway through the four-year intensive Nihon Vogue program for knitwear design and fine Japanese finishing techniques.

“I get inspiration from nature, and when I'm not out walking the great outdoors (in the ocean), I'm immersed in my biggest passion - knitting. I've spent many a sleepless night dreaming up new designs, and my endless knitting projects have gradually taken over the entire house, much to the bemusement of my neat-freak husband.”

To book your free five-minute session with Sharpe at Thursday’s event, call 604-598-7426. Participants are also encouraged to bring any extra yarn or knitting accessories they may own to swap with others.
