SURREY — Starting this weekend, works by members of Surrey Photography Club are featured in a group exhibit at Surrey Art Gallery.

More than 30 images created by club members will be on view for two months, from Dec. 5 to 7.

It’s the club’s first exhibit at the gallery in close to four years, said president Natalie Coates.

“This will be some of the best work of club members,” she told the Now. “It’s a selection of art, a wide variety, including landscapes, florals, portraits –whatever our members are interested in, and that’s a wide variety of interests.”

The club’s 40 members meet at St. Helen’s Church hall (located at 108th Avenue and 128th Street in Surrey) on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

The club is open to both amateur and professional photographers, from beginner to advanced. Activities include guest talks, critique nights, field trips and, of course, group exhibits.

“Anyone is welcome to attend a meeting,” said Coates, who will have two or three works in the exhibit at Surrey Art Gallery. “At our meeting nights, the topics vary and our website does list our events coming up, including the speakers we have lined up and the image-critique nights. It’s a very supportive (atmosphere) and the goal is to improve photography.”

Elsewhere at Surrey Art Gallery, “Views from the Southbank III: Information, Objects, Mappings,” a third exhibit celebrating the gallery’s 40th anniversary, closes on Sunday, Dec. 13. Other SAG exhibits closing that day include “Re:Source: A Living Archive 1975-2015” and The Grove: A Spatial Narrative.”

Next up at the gallery, from Jan. 16 to March 20, is Graeme Patterson’s “Secret Citadel,” which “tells a story of friendship through four large-scale sculptural installations complemented by stop-motion animation.”

Details can be found online at Arts.surrey.ca or by calling 604-501-5566.
