The Sheepdogs are set to rock out the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.

The Saskatchewan rockers will headline Surrey Canada Day festivities along with Sass Jordan and Don Amero.

“I’m excited to invite all of our residents to join us for the largest Canada Day celebration in Western Canada,” Mayor Brenda Locke said in a press release.

“Whether it’s the great food, amusement rides, unforgettable fireworks, or enjoying headliners like the Sheepdogs or Sass Jordan, this year’s festivities promise to be bigger and better than ever,” Locke added. “I hope to see you all there at the fun and festivities as we mark the birthday of our great nation.”

Surrey Canada Day is being presented this year by Prospera Credit Union. Event festivities begin at 10 a.m. July 1 and run until 10:30 p.m. when the city sets off its fireworks display.

According to the release, “celebrated Juno Award Winner Sass Jordan and respected Indigenous singer-songwriter Don Amero” will both feature alongside The Sheepdogs.

The Siam Stage returns this year and it will feature other events, presentations, and cultural acts, including some Indigenous cultural presentations.

There is also a kids stage, which will feature family-oriented entertainment, and a Community Stage, which will have many local performers and some dance battles. A DJ will spin tracks on the Community Stage when there are no performances scheduled.

Singer-songwriter Don Amero hails from Winnipeg. He performs a blend of folk- and country-style music with “heartfelt lyrics.”

Montreal’s Sass Jordan has been a Canadian mainstay since 1988 when she released her debut album, Tell Somebody. Her latest studio album, Bitches Blues, was released in 2022.

The Dawgs, as they are affectionately known by some superfans, hail from the Paris of the Prairies. The band are high-energy rock ‘n’ rollers and have scooped several JUNO awards over the past few years.

“As an organization with deep roots in Surrey, we recognize the importance of this event in bringing our community together to honour our country’s diverse heritage,” said Gavin Toy, president and CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “We invite everyone in Surrey and the surrounding area to join us at this extraordinary celebration.”

There will be several food trucks on-site for Surrey Canada Day, along with exhibitors and vendors and some amusement rides.

Of course a massive fireworks finale awaits everyone who stays there late.

Along with the sponsorship from Prospera, Surrey Canada Day received grants from both the Province of B.C. and the Federal Government.
