Thank You For The Music

Non-profit society launches with Oct. 15 fundraiser to collect pianos for Surrey students.

Calling all musicians, music lovers, and anyone whose quality of life has been enhanced through music: A new non-profit society is launching in B.C. and wants to celebrate the power of music with you at its upcoming fundraiser on Oct. 15.

Thank You for the Music (TYFTM) Society is hosting its launch party and first fundraiser on Oct. 15 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club, 3670 Sperling Ave.

Funds raised will be allocated to TYFTM’s start-up operational costs and one of its current projects, to provide new pianos to schools within the Surrey School District.

TYFTM’s vision is communities where everyone has the opportunity to enhance their quality of life through music, and is focused on projects to help realize that vision. The society works to deliver programs and projects that overcome the barriers communities face accessing music.

“Being able to participate in music – whether it’s singing in a community choir, playing in a school band, or just jamming with some buddies – enhances life at every age and stage,” said TYFTM’s founder and President, Shelley Gimbel. “Over time, we envision our society’s efforts helping to bring music into the lives of all ages from children to older adults, and including everything from funding instruments to supporting a variety of music programs.”

The volunteer-run society has been active over the last year, and was officially incorporated as a non-profit society in May 2016.

The fundraiser (a 19+ event) will be a casual, entertaining evening featuring free-to-play music bingo, with winners receiving prizes such as a trip for two to Las Vegas or a Yamaha keyboard and stand. The event also includes live piano, complimentary snacks and a silent auction.

Tickets are $30 at the door. Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.
