At a Surrey credit union Saturday (March 9), families can have their portraits professionally taken free of charge if they open a RESP account there (Registered Education Savings Plan).

The promo event is planned Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Savings Credit Union branch at #900-7380 King George Blvd., in Newton.

Photos can be booked with family photographer Jafna Jaed ahead of time, online at calendly.com/communitysavingsresp/familyphoto, with 15-minute time slots available. People need to bring the child’s SIN and adult ID to the photo shoot to begin the RESP account opening process.

“What’s more, we offer a free $100 contribution when you set up your RESP with us and an additional $100 when you bank with (Community Savings),” promises an email from a rep with Yulu Public Relations.

“When you open your RESP account for your child, you might also be eligible for more free government grants and contributions,” including $7,200 funds matching per child as part of the Canada Education Savings Grant, $2,000 per eligible child for low-income families from the Canada Learning Bond and $1,200 (one-time) for B.C. residents from the B.C. government.
