Court date for Surrey care aide accused of defrauding seniors

A Surrey resident and care aide who was in the news earlier this year for allegedly defrauding 21 elderly people is scheduled to appear in Surrey provincial court on Halloween day.

Ana Marie Lat Chamdal, 30, faced 77 charges in total after being arrested in February. She is set to appear in court on Tuesday Oct. 31, at 2 p.m.

Surrey Mounties said in February Chamdal is believed to have worked as a care aide in Surrey, White Rock, Delta and Richmond.

Court Services Online lists three files under her name, with publication bans imposed on two of them.

The third file lists 10 charges.

On June 15, 2022 Chamdal is alleged to have committed theft in Richmond, fraud over $5,000 in Surrey and Delta, possessing and using a stolen credit card in Surrey and Delta, breaching an undertaking in Surrey and Delta, identity theft in Surrey, White Rock and Delta, and unauthorized use of credit card data in Surrey, White Rock and Delta.

She is also alleged to have used a forged document on June 18, 2022 and on July 12, 2022 is alleged to have committed theft in White Rock, fraud in Surrey and White Rock, and possessing and using a stolen credit card in Surrey and White Rock.

According to Court Services Online, the appearance reason code attached to this particular file is IGP, or intention to enter a guilty plea.
