Police are investigating a shooting at 84 Avenue and Scott Road, in a parking lot, with one person seriously injured.

Police say they received the call at 1:30 p.m. but so far are releasing few details.

The Now-Leader has learned that a man was shot three times and taken away by ambulance.

Five or six shots were heard.

The manager of Church’s Chicken, in that area, declined to comment.

“I’m not allowed to comment on it because I don’t know, I’m sorry,” she said.

Police have yellow barricade tape up. Roughly a half hour after the shooting Surrey Mounties were alerted to a vehicle fire in the 9900-block of 179 Street.

At least 10 police cars are at the scene. Bystander Natasha Adams told the Now-Leader she was across the intersection when she heard three or four gunshots. “At first I thought it was backfire.”

There was a black BMW at the scene, with the driver’s side window shot out.

“Then there was another round and the car apparently went flying straight up 84th,” she said. “It went flying out and five minutes later all sorts of cops came flying in.”

When the victim was loaded into the ambulance “he was still alive at that point, I don’t have any information after that. They got the ambulance out, lights were still going. I heard the sirens for a bit until they were kind of in a distance. I hoping he’s OK. People need to start being smarter, this shit’s stupid. Like, I shouldn’t have to worry about my life going to work.”

The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit (GIU) is asking anyone with information or dash camera footage to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote 23-15800.
