Surrey RCMP stats year-to-date over same period 2022 mark little change

Latest year-to-date stats compared with same period in 2022 show 2% drop in violent crimes, 1% increase in Criminal Code offences overall

The latest year-to-date statistics released by the Surrey RCMP compared with the same period in 2022 indicate a two per cent decrease in violent crimes and a one per cent increase in Criminal Code offences overall.

In the first three quarters of 2023 Surrey recorded 12 homicides compared to 19 over the same period last year, making for a decrease of 37 per cent. All told, there were 5,016 violent crimes in the first three quarters of this year compared to 5,122 in the first three quarters of last year.

As for property crimes, Surrey saw a seven per cent decrease in 2023 (15,328 recorded offences) in the first three quarters of 2023 compared to the same period last year, during which 16,447 such offences were recorded.

The total number of Criminal Code offences recorded city-wide during the first three quarters of 2023 was 29,819 compared to 29,409 during the first three quarters of 2022.
