Expanding the opportunities to bring dogs on White Rock’s waterfront promenade is to be among items up for discussion at the next council meeting — and the city’s mayor is predicting the suggestion will keep councillors hopping until then.
In a notice of motion presented Monday (April 29), Coun. Elaine Cheung asks council to direct staff to bring forward a bylaw amendment that would facilitate a trial of allowing dogs on the promenade from 5:30 to 9 a.m. from April to October.
Under current city bylaws, dogs are only allowed on the walkway from Oct. 1 until March 31. They must be leashed, licensed and vaccinated, and owners must bag and properly dispose of any feces that’s deposited by their pet during the visit.

Following Cheung’s notice, Mayor Megan Knight implied councillors would likely be fielding numerous inquiries and comments on the matter ahead of the next meeting — the issue has historically been a hot topic — set for May 13.
