SURREY — Surrey firefighters fought yet another major three-alarm fire Monday, this time at an apartment building in Guildford.

Flames erupted through the roof of the three-storey  building, at 14801 Holly Park Lane, after a chimney fire ate into the structure.

"It looks like it started in the fireplace and then got into the wall," Surrey Deputy Fire Chief Karen Fry said.

Nobody was injured.

Deputy Chief Dan Barnscher said 16 apartments were evacuated after the fire began shortly before 11 a.m. but all the tenants were able to return in the afternoon.

"It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, with a fair amount of damage to the upper suite and water damage to the lower suite," Barnscher said.

Twenty six firefighters and eight fire trucks were involved in the battle.

"We only have the two units where people were displaced," Barnscher said. "Nobody required any emergency social service; they were staying with friends."

Earlier Monday morning, at roughly 5:30 a.m., some 32 firefighters were called to a stubborn blaze at a flooring company warehouse fire at 7550-132nd Street in Newton.
