Car crashes into Starbucks cafe in Surrey

SURREY — Two people were taken to hospital Thursday afternoon after a car smashed into a Starbucks coffee shop in Whalley.

It happened at about 12:40 p.m., in the 10300-block of King George Boulevard. The store sustained significant damage.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said a customer who'd been sitting outside the café was taken to hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening. "The lone occupant and driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure," Schumann said. "Initial indications are that this incident may be related to driver error, however, the investigation is still continuing."

Police ask witnesses to call the Surrey Now at 604-599-0502.
