Elderly couple struck in North Surrey

Man and woman visiting from China struck in Guildford Tuesday night

An elderly couple visiting from China are in hospital after being struck by a car in North Surrey.

The 63-year-old woman and man, 67, were on a crosswalk at 100 Avenue, as they crossed 152 Street at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A 60-year-old man from Burnaby was heading southbound on 152 Street and making a left turn onto 100 Avenue when he hit the couple.

The couple was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, where the woman is being examined for injuries to her pelvis and head, while the man suffered trauma to his leg.

The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with police.

Police say it was rainy and dark when the couple was hit, but that they were crossing on a green light.

Charges haven’t been forwarded, but they are being considered.
