Ferrari driver busted in Surrey for ludicrous speeding - with child in the car

SURREY — A Langley man was busted Saturday in South Surrey for driving his Ferrari F430 more than 180 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, with a 10-year-old boy in the car.

“Despite the driver’s extremely excessive speed, the real surprise for officers was when they saw a young child in the vehicle with him,” said Cpl Robert McDonald, of “E” Division RCMP Traffic Services. “I don’t know how someone could put a child at risk like that.

“What’s more, the driver admitted to police that he was aware that very intersection was the scene of the horrific motor vehicle accident where an entire family lost their lives,” McDonald said. “He just didn’t care.

“He told the officer he was just testing the new car.”

Police clocked him with a laser at 181 km/h and waved him down. The luxury Italian sports car was heading south on 176th Street at 32nd Avenue.

That was where nearly an entire Newton family was killed April 28, 2013 when a Dodge Caravan blew through a red light and broadsided their Toyota Corolla.

Jessica Sachdeva, 3, Annish Sachdeva, 5, the children's mother Pawandeep Arjot, 31, their aunt Neelam Rani Dhingra, 47, and grandmother Vidya Wanti Sachdeva, 68, were killed. The impact of the crash hurled the Corolla into a metal street post. Debris was scattered as far as 100 metres.

The Caravan’s driver, Daniel Gore, 46, of Langley, later died in hospital, where it was discovered he’d been suffering from a brain tumor.

As for the Ferrari driver, police issued the 49-year-old Langley man, whose name has not been released, with a $483 fine for excessive speeding and impounded his car for seven days.
