Surrey RCMP is investigating a crash that has left at least one person with “serious injuries.”

Surrey Fire Battalion Chief Reo Jerome said Surrey Fire Service received the call at 4:29 p.m. Friday (March 27).

The crash happened in the 16100-block of 96th, police said.

Jerome, who also responded to the call, said that when the first crew arrived on scene, there were “two vehicles in the middle of the road, both with major damage and both with a person trapped inside each vehicle.”

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life.

“There was two extraction going on at the same time, with the Jaws of Life,” Jerome said. “One was fairly straightforward and the other one was more difficult based on the person on how they were trapped in the vehicle.”

One person, he said, was “unresponsive, but breathing on their own throughout when they were taken by ambulance, but there was some very substantial trauma to the person.”

Police said the investigation is in its early stages. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at 1-800-222-TIPS or solvecrime.ca.

Investigators are also looking for dash-cam video, Surrey RCMP said.

The Now-Leader has contacted Surrey RCMP and Surrey Fire Service for more information.
