Funeral set for wife of former Sikh temple president

SURREY – The funeral for Narinder Kaur Kalsi – the victim of an alleged domestic-related incident – has been set for Sunday, July 27.

Her husband and former president of Gurdwara Sahib Brookside, Baldev Singh Kalsi, has been charged with second-degree murder.

RCMP was called to a home at the 19400-block of 32 Avenue on Sunday, July 13. At the scene, officers noted that Narinder sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital by BC Ambulance Services.

After a week, Narinder was taken off of life-support and was pronounced dead just before 4:30 p.m. on July 20.

Baldev failed to make his first court appearance on July 16.

He was attacked and sustained facial injuries while in custody at Surrey Pretrial Centre on July 15 and was taken to the hospital.

Her funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Riverside Funeral Home in Ladner before an antam ardas (prayer) at Gurdwara Sahib Brookside at 3:30 p.m.
