UPDATE: Homicide team says Surrey man ‘targeted for murder’ in latest shooting

IHIT says Bikramjit Khakh was known to police, ‘believed’ to be linked to Lower Mainland gang conflict

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim in Friday night’s (Feb. 1) shooting at 30-year-old Surrey resident Bikramjit Khakh.

IHIT said Khakh was known to police and “his murder is believed to be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in the Lower Mainland.”

“We believe Bikramjit Khakh was targeted for murder,” said Corporal Frank Jang on Saturday (Feb. 2). “Developing the timeline of Mr. Khakh’s activities prior to his death will be one of the priorities for our detectives.”

At about 7:15 p.m. Friday evening, Surrey RCMP said they were called to the 13900-block of 58A Avenue with reports of a shooting. When police officers arrived, they found an “adult victim” suffering gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to revive the victim, they succumbed to their injuries.

IHIT said in a news release Saturday (Feb. 2), that a “white four-door Mercedes sedan was seen quickly leaving the area after the shooting.

Shortly after the shooting was reported, RCMP were notified to a vehicle on fire in the area of King George Boulevard and Colebrook Road, which was about three kilometres away from the scene of the shooting, IHIT said.

IHIT said its detectives now “believe the two incidents are linked.”

The area around both of the incidents will be cordoned off “for a significant amount of time,” according to a Friday evening press release. IHIT will be working with the Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section to gather evidence.

As of 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, police still had the scene of the shooting taped off.

Anyone with information about this investigation can call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. If people want to remain anonymous, they can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

IHIT said drivers with dash-cam video who were driving in the area Friday evening are asked to contact IHIT “immediately.”
