SURREY - Police say a 22-year-old Surrey man who was shot in Newton Tuesday night is believed to be involved in the drug trade.
He is not co-operating with police, Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann told the Now-Leader Wednesday morning.
Police say this was the 55th shots-fired incident in Surrey so far this year.
Surrey RCMP say they received reports of gunfire near 148th Street and 64th Avenue around 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 5).
Police say the suspect, who is described as wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident, shot into the vehicle the victim was driving.
The victim crashed into another vehicle before coming to a stop, Surrey RCMP say.
The suspect then fled the scene westbound, in a dark coloured sedan.
The victim was taken to hospital and police say his injuries are not life threatening.
Surrey RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation and Forensic Identification Service is assisting at the scene.
Officers are also conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with witnesses as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information on the suspect vehicle or the incident is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or visit solvecrime.ca.
