SOUTH SURREY — Police are hoping the public can help find a man who may have tried to lure a teen into his vehicle in South Surrey.
A 17-year-old girl was walking to school in the 12900-block of 22B Avenue on June 5 when a man in a black SUV pulled up beside her and asked her if she needed a ride.
The teen said she repeatedly told him, ‘no’ and eventually he drove away. She then reported the incident to a teacher.
“We can’t say for sure what the male’s motive was, but it’s safe to say it’s not normal, or acceptable, for adult strangers to be offering rides to teens,†said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann. “We would like to speak with this person to determine his true intentions.â€
The man is described as Asian, 40 to 50 years old with no facial hair, a roundish face and very short hair.
Schumann said the teen did the right thing by alerting her teacher.
“Students can improve their personal safety while walking to and from school by being aware of their surroundings and staying alert at all times. Walking with friends is another great way to improve personal safety.â€
