Arrest leads to controlled-substance cache in White Rock

Two taken into custody in separate incidents in White Rock two days apart

In the process of arresting a man suspected of breaking into a White Rock house Sunday, police say they found a “variety” of controlled substances on the property.

White Rock RCMP received a 911 call early Sunday afternoon from a resident reporting a break-and-enter in the 800-block of Stayte Road. Nearby police arrested a 31-year-old man who was seen running from the residence, Const. Chantal Sears told Peace Arch News Tuesday.

When police went inside the house to clear the building, it “was evident that the house was being used for criminal activity for a long period of time,” Sears said.

After obtaining a search warrant for the two-storey white house, RCMP’s Clandestine Synthetic Drug Laboratories (CLAN lab) was called to assist with the investigation, Sears added.

“CLAN lab came and confirmed that there was no hazardous materials or risk to the public at that point,” Sears said.

RCMP removed police tape from the property Monday.

City of White Rock bylaw enforcement placed stickers on the house saying that occupancy of the building is prohibited due to “contamination.” Police have yet to locate the owner of the home.

The 31-year-old was released from custody on a promise to appear in court.

Tuesday, White Rock RCMP conducted a second, unrelated, search warrant at an apartment complex located just north of White Rock Elementary.

Officers, including a member of the forensic identification unit, were on scene just north of White Rock Elementary, in the 1300-block of George Street, just after 9:30 a.m.

Sears confirmed one man was arrested, but would not disclose what police were looking for.
