SURREY — A fiery crash between a semi-trailer and a pickup truck in Cloverdale late Wednesday night sent both drivers to hospital with injuries.

It happened at 176th Street and 88th Avenue, at 10:30 p.m.

"After impact, the tractor trailer continued through the intersection, going into the east side ditch, and the trailer caught fire," said Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson. The pickup truck was pushed back through the intersection and its front end was demolished.

Traffic was blocked for several hours.

Hedderson said the drivers' injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

Surrey firefighters had to transport water to the scene as there are no fire hydrants there.
