A 28-year-old Surrey man was shot Monday night near a home that contained a marijuana grow operation.
Surrey RCMP responded to a shots fired call at about 10:15 in the 14400-block of 68 Avenue.
Mounties saw two vehicles leaving the area, one being driven by the man with a shot to the abdomen, and in the other were three people being held by police in relation to the shooting. All three are in their late 30s and are from Surrey.
Police found evidence at the scene which was consistent with gunshots being fired and in the process found a marijuana grow operation.
Corp. Drew Grainger said it's too early to say whether it was a grow rip, but police aren't ruling it out.
"At this stage, that's what it appears at the surface," Grainger said. "We won't know for sure yet, it's still pretty early in the investigation."
The man who was shot is in serious but stable condition.
Grainger said the man who was shot is associated with the house where the grow operation was found.
Grainger said the incident is not gang related and is considered an isolated occurrence.
Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 604-599-0502.
