Surrey RCMP auto crime team arrests 13 in 13 days

SURREY — Thirteen’s unlucky, if the Surrey RCMP’s Auto Crime Target Team’s got your number.

The specialized team arrested 13 suspects in 13 days, recommending dozens of charges related to stolen property, fraud, drugs and court breaches. One suspect is facing 25 charges.

Property crime increased across the Lower Mainland in 2014 and accounts for nearly 40 per cent of Surrey’s criminal cases.

“With these recent arrests, a number of prolific property crime offenders have been taken off the streets and many will be spending the holiday season behind bars,” said Sgt. Gary Rodricks. “As part of our crime reduction strategy and in partnership with other law enforcement personnel, we are taking steps towards reducing the prevalence of property crime in Surrey.”
