Surrey RCMP looking for arsonist who set car on fire in Whalley

Police are looking for an arsonist who set a 2015 Dodge Charger on fire in Whalley.

SURREY — The Surrey RCMP is looking for an arsonist who set a car on fire in Whalley on Feb. 13.

Staff Sergeant Murray Hedderson said police have obtained a video "showing a male pouring a liquid, believed to be some type of accelerant, onto the vehicle and igniting it."

It happened at 2:45 a.m., in the 13200-block of 98th Avenue. Firefighters and police found the 2015 Dodge Charger "fully engulfed" and firefighters extinguished the fire.

"Inquiries were conducted with the vehicle owner, his family and also with neighbours," Hedderson said.

Police are looking for a man who ran from the scene. He's described as about I've feet nine inches tall, and wore a dark hoodie, and dark track pants with two white stripes down the legs.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
