Surrey senior killed after being hit by car

82-year-old succumbs to injuries after being struck while crossing the street on Sunday.

An 82-year-old man is dead after being struck by a car on the weekend.

At just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the man was crossing King George Boulevard at 73 Avenue. There is no marked crosswalk there.

The pedestrian made it across the southbound lanes, and prompted a car to stop in the northbound fast lane. As he made his way to the slow lane, he was struck.

He was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver who hit the man stayed on the scene and was cooperative with investigators, police say.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said at this point, no charges against the driver are being considered.
