SURREY — A woman accused of stealing pets for a Surrey-based dog rescue organization has pleaded guilty to breaching her bail conditions.
Janet Olson, 60, entered the plea Thursday during an appearance in B.C. provincial court in Surrey, according to court records.
Although she was facing two breach charges, Olson admitted to only one; the other was stayed. Olson was credited with six days in jail and sentenced to time served.
Olson, founder of A Better Life Dog Rescue, was arrested at her home on Sept. 27, 2012 after police received a tip from the public that Olson was continuing to participate in the operation of the dog rescue organization, contrary to her bail conditions.
She spent six nights in jail before being released on $50,000 bail.
Olson is still facing 36 theft and break-and-enter charges in connection with dog thefts alleged to have taken place in Surrey, Coquitlam, Langley, Abbotsford, Mission, Vancouver, White Rock, Richmond, Delta and New Westminster between 2006 and 2011.
Her next appearance on those charges is scheduled for March 4 in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.
Olson was not the only person associated with A Better Life Dog Rescue accused of taking dogs.
In August 2012, Louise Mary Alice Reid, a former co-director of A Better Life, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft in connection with dog thefts in Surrey and Coquitlam and was given a conditional discharge.
Charges of theft, break-and-enter and possession of stolen property were dropped last January against four women involved with the organization after they successfully completed alternative measures programs.
