Metro Vancouver mayors are unlikely to meet again with Transportation Minister Todd Stone before January to resume negotiations to solve TransLink's funding challenges.
Mayors' council chair Richard Walton said the group is still waiting for the province to bring back a proposal on reforms to TransLink governance as well as word of what new funding would be acceptable to the province and the plan for a referendum next year on the solution.
"They're aware of the fact time is marching by," Walton said of the mayors and the province's vow that a TransLink funding referendum take place by next November.
"They've been quite clear they don't want to meet again until there is something quite tangible for us to discuss. My suspicion is it will not be until January."
Walton said he expects to continue talks with Stone by phone in the meantime.
Without new funding, transit service will not keep up with the region's rising population in the years ahead, and longer passenger waits and congestion are expected as a result.
