Two wounded in Surrey drive-by shooting

SURREY — Two young men shot Thursday night in a drive-by shooting in Newton are recovering from their wounds.

Police say it’s too early to say if this is linked to a series of shootings in the city — seven in five days — that happened earlier this month.

“We haven’t established a connection yet,” Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said. “It’s too early to confirm.”

Police responding to 911 calls of shots fired and erratic driving in the area of 88th Avenue and 124A Street were looking for a white Ford Escape and a dark coloured SUV when the victims, ages 25 and 26, showed up at hospital in the Escape.

Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson said neither of the victims, who are known to police, has been “forthcoming” with information.
