A construction site at Garrison Crossing was closed off on Friday morning

RCMP were on the scene at a construction site in Garrison Friday, following a workplace incident that led to one man’s death.

The identity of the worker who died has not been released, but WorkSafe BC has confirmed that one worker died on scene and another two workers were injured. At least one of those workers was airlifted by medevac to hospital, after being freed by emergency crews.

Trish Knight Chernecki, spokesperson for WorkSafe BC, said they were called about 8:30 a.m. Friday to attend the scene as second responders. The construction site is directly behind Cheam Leisure Centre, on Tamihi Way.

“Our information is very very preliminary at this point,” she said on Friday afternoon. “We can confirm that WorkSafe BC responded to an incident at approximately 8:30 a.m. Three workers were injured, one fatally, when a concrete pumping truck fell forward at a residential construction site in Chilliwack.”

She said the organization is working in two capacities following the incident.

“WorkSafe BC officers are at the work site to begin an investigation. Also WorkSafe BC critical incident support staff will be working with the families and co-workers in these tragic circumstances.”
