Wheelchair van stolen at Carvolth bus exchange recovered in Surrey

Surrey RCMP found the van on Jan. 8, six days after it had been taken.

Police in Surrey have recovered the wheelchair van stolen from a Langley family when it was parked at the Carvolth bus exchange.

The rear bench and radio were taken out, both door locks and the steering column are damaged, but the wheelchair ramp appears to be intact, said police.

Surrey RCMP found the van on Jan. 8, six days after it had been taken.

The family van also had an expensive stroller and two car seats used by the family’s twin boys. Police in Langley didn’t know if the car seats are still inside.

The van is currently with ICBC and will be given back to the family when the repairs are made.

The theft of the van robbed a Langley father of being able to drive his toddlers around. Despite a lot of media attention around the van theft, there have are not yet any suspects in the case.

To replace a wheelchair-equipped van costs upwards of $40,000. The van this family had stolen is a 1998 model Plymouth.

If you know anything about the suspect involved in this theft, call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
