SURREY — A woman was killed while crossing 152nd Street in Guildford early Tuesday morning.

"She wasn't in a crosswalk," Surrey RCMP Sgt. Paul Hayes noted.

She was struck by a car near 104th Avenue, at about 6:30 a.m. Police are still trying to identify the victim, who is believed to have been in her 40s.

Hayes noted it was still dark and the weather was "miserable" at the time. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police, he said.

It is Surrey's first pedestrian-related fatality this year.

Last year Surrey recorded eight fatal crashes involving pedestrians while Delta recorded one fatal pedestrian crash in July, three pedestrian crashes involving serious injuries and one serious crash involving a cyclist.
