WARREN, Gladys E.

(nee Worrall) 1928-2005

After a short illness, Gladys passed away on October 10, 2005. Missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Nancy (George) and sons Brent (Camilla) and Bruce (Elaine), and also her dearest grandsons Graham, John, Jeffrey, Andrew, Stuart and Gregory. Survived by her brothers Ted (Thelma) and Roy (Corky) Worrall and their families. She is also remembered by her former husband, Joe Warren. Gladys was born in Calgary on August 21, 1928, moving to Vancouver in 1934 with her mother, Olive, and her brothers after the death of her war-amp father, Edward Lyndhurst (Lynn) Worrall. She graduated from Lord Byng High School at age 16 and with a B.A. from UBC at age 20 in 1949. She worked as a social worker in the Vancouver and Abbotsford areas for several years. Gladys was an active volunteer and fundraiser in her community, volunteering at Edith Cavell Elementary where she was responsible for building their first adventure playground, and at Douglas Park Community Association where, as a board member, she was instrumental in the building of the current community centre facility. She also volunteered for UNICEF, and in civic and provincial politics. In recent years she spent time with her family, especially enjoying the various activities of her grandsons. A memorial service will be held at St. Helen's Anglican Church at 4405 W. 8th Ave., Vancouver, BC on October 18th at 1:30 pm. Thanks to the staff of VGH Emergency and ACE departments for their kindness.

Donations may be made in memory of Gladys to the War Amps (www.waramps.ca) or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada (www.ccfc.ca).
