September 24, 1935 - September 16, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Madeleine (Madge) Vecchio on September 16, 2020 at Laurel Place Hospice in Surrey. Madge was predeceased by her son Christopher Daigle in 2017.
Left to mourn are her husband James Vecchio, children Joni Daigle (Ian), Donna Stewart (Paul), Michael Vecchio (Michelle) and Teresa Higo (Ken), her sister Dorothy Eyben, daughter-in-law Marjory Daigle, and her 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren to whom she was an amazing Granny. Madge will be missed by her many friends, especially Len and Jeana Correale.
Madge was born in Timmins, Ontario and came to British Columbia in 1968 along with her three children with not much more than the clothes on her back. Through her strength, determination, and support from her family Mom made a wonderful life for us here in BC.
She met James in 1975 (married in 1977) and our family grew with the addition of Michael and Teresa. Mom had a wonderful, and sometimes inappropriate, sense of humour, was incredibly generous, and loved her family with everything she had.
She was the chief cook and bottle-washer for many years of large and entertaining family dinners where she cooked amazing meals and baked delectable treats for all of us, and we will always have our beloved memories of those crazy family dinners.
She and James were active members in their church, St. Matthew's Parish, and volunteered at the soup kitchen operated within the church for many years. Mom was also a member of the Catholic Women's League. They were awarded the Special Recognition Award in 2018 by the Surrey Food Bank.
A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Laurel Place Hospice for their care and kindness to mom, as well as the doctors and staff at the BC Cancer Agency (Surrey). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Surrey Food Bank or Laurel Place Hospice.
Mom, we'll be raising a glass of your beloved Crown Royal in your honour.
You will always be in our hearts and memories.
By request, there will be no funeral service.
