It is with much sorrow we announce the death of William Arthur Gies Jr, on January 11th, 2024. A loss unexpected and deeply felt by all those who loved him.
Born in New York City on Jan. 31, 1942 to William Gies Sr. and Roberta Gies.
Bill earned an architecture degree in 1972 from California Polytechnic State University. During this time, he met and married Bonnie Levison. In 1973 they moved to Vancouver, BC and started a family. Daughter, Brook was born in 1974, followed by Son, Brent in 1976.
He was a long-time member of the Vancouver Folk Song Society and volunteered with the Vancouver Jazz Festival since its early days.
A casual celebration of Bill's life will be held between 2:00pm and 5:00pm on June 22nd at the Quaker Meeting House, 1090 West 70th Avenue, Vancouver. Please join us for some ice cream, coffee and a song or two in his memory.
