Compact homes a good start

There's a great opportunity to promote compact, ground-oriented homes which do not have strata fees.

The North Delta Area Plan Review, which is finally getting started, is a great opportunity to promote compact, ground-oriented homes which do not have strata fees.

The aging ranchers on 66-foot lots in North Delta could each be replaced by three or even four compact, attractive, innovative and affordable homes on smaller lots. These smaller homes would provide affordable home ownership options for first-time buyers; compact and accessible homes would give empty-nesters a chance to downsize into a low-maintenance unit in their own neighbourhood without having to buy something that would require them to pay strata fees for the rest of their lives.

Compact homes would provide more tax revenue for Delta. They could be designed in such a way as to blend in with the existing neighbourhoods better than townhouse developments and better than the 2,970 square foot homes with full basements which usually replace aging ranchers in North Delta.

I urge everyone who cares about the direction North Delta will take in the next decade to make your views known to the North Delta Area Plan Review Committee, which is described on The Corporation of Delta’s website.
