I am a single household with very little actual garbage. I use the garden waste program and have my own composts.
My garbage can goes out perhaps once a month and what is in it, gets pretty high.
With so many crows and dumpster-diving squirrels, I long ago gave up putting a plastic bag at the end of the driveway and always use a garbage can as well.
I am home on pick-up days and have noticed that the garden waste swampers will remove my black bag from the garbage can, and dump it beside the garbage cans next door as their truck moves down the crescent.
Twice I have had to go out and pick up what the crows have managed to pull out of the pecked bag and have returned the bag to my can, where the garbage truck lads will take it.
Today I went out to remonstrate with the two gentlemen who felt they were doing me a favour by “taking” my garbage, and doing the next lot of collectors a favour in saving them some time.
I am more interested in my time, and the fact that I have had to get out and pick up strewn garbage from in front of my neighbour’s house.
If this is the policy of the waste management team in Surrey I think it stinks!
Keeping our neighbourhoods and streets clean and tidy isn’t helped by the redistribution of my garbage by these helpful but misguided employees and the only benefit is felt by the scavengers.
