LETTER: Slates don't serve Surrey well but strong individuals do

The Editor,

Re: "Rasode's positioned herself well," the Now, April 24.

I was concerned right from the start about what might happen with a slate that has no opposition on city council - it becomes more like a dictatorship.

This applies to all levels of government, where the top gun rules the roost and the rest just say, 'OK' - even if it seems the people in power are going against their own constituents' will. Because of that, and many other reasons, I don't like slates.

We need individuals who get elected under their own power and credentials for the job. We need people who can then vote with their conscience rather than the party line.

It's going to be a tough road for Barinder Rasode but I hope she sticks to her guns and principles. Good luck to her.
