It amazes me that if you cut down one tree, the bylaw officer will be summoned promptly. Cut down many mature trees and nothing happens.
I guess this is because one tree will get you a quick response, and a fine, if you are an ordinary citizen who cannot afford a lawyer.
When one of my “good neighbours” reported that I was cutting down a tree, the bylaw officer was in my backyard promptly. Fortunately for me, the tree was under 12” and was an old diseased apple tree.
So much for Surrey bylaws.
