Ever feel like throwing in the towel?
Everyone gets discouraged, from time to time. Imagine, for example, how the Surrey Knights Junior “B” ice hockey team must have felt, shouldering an 89-game losing streak.
Let’s face it, a horrid record like that could get you down.
Really down.
Nevertheless, they didn’t give up, and that’s what it’s all about. On Friday, the team finally broke the bad spell and defeated the Abbotsford Pilots 2-0, proving that there is always hope for those who don’t quit. They’ve earned a clean slate, and fresh start, for sticking it out.
A good lesson for all of us, we’d say.
Friday was the Knights’ first win after moving to Surrey before the 2015-16 season got underway. The team’s last win – before Friday’s, that is, was on Nov. 19, 2015, when they were still the Langley Knights.
Knights head coach Spencer McHaffie told the Now-Leader it felt like his team had won the Stanley Cup.

“I’ve never seen guys on the bench so happy before,” he said. “After the game, the guys were just going nuts.”
And that joy, of course, that reward, wouldn’t have happened if the Knights had collectively said, “Ah, nuts,” and dropped out.
There’s hope for us all, then. Even the Canucks, who’ve been trying to win the Stanley Cup for 47 years.
Go Canucks – and way to go, Surrey Knights.
