I really enjoyed reading letter writer Lloyd Atkins’ message about distracted drivers (“Gambling with distractions,” The Leader, Aug. 22).
I walk every day for two hours and if I had a pen and paper to write down all the licence plates of people who are using their cellphones, I would have two large sheets filled.
It is sad to see.
I just have to shake my head and wonder what are we going to hear on the news tomorrow about someone using their cellphone.
My neighbours, family and friends all talk and we wonder who gets to make the final decision on how to charge these drivers?
It isn’t strict enough.
Maybe a night in jail might get people to think, but then our jails would be too full.
How about charging them so they have a criminal record and then maybe they might think, “oh, I can’t cross the border or go on a nice vacation anywhere because of my record.”
Take the cars and trucks and cellphones away for two weeks.
Fine them $2,000 and put that money towards our taxes.
