NORTH DELTA — The junior Huskies are hitting the playoffs in full stride.
North Delta Secondary’s junior boys basketball team is a district powerhouse, having gone undefeated in league play for a third year in a row.
“We are 36-0 in league play (in the Delta district) over that span,” boasted head coach Gary Sandhu.
“Our junior girls finished first in the Delta district as well,” he added.
“We have some of the strongest teams in Delta.”
The district playoffs are happening this week, with “Super Saturday” final games to be played Feb. 13 at Seaquam Secondary. The top teams will move on to the Fraser Valley championships and, beyond that, to the provincials.
The junior boys of North Delta Secondary have an overall record of 22-4 this season, including exhibition, league and tournament play, and have been ranked as high as 10th provincially.
“The goal this year is to get into B.C.’s, because our core players are Grade 9’s playing against more physically mature junior-aged players in Grade 10,” Sandhu explained. “If we get into BC’s the experience would be great for the following year.”
Saturday’s games at Seaquam will also feature Grade 8 teams in Delta.
