First loss for ICST Pegasus

Surrey side maintains Premier Division lead in VMSL

The last unbeaten team in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League’s Premier Division has fallen.

Surrey’s ICST Pegasus was blanked 2-0 by second-place West Van FC last Friday evening at Newton Athletic Park.

West Van scored after just 10 minutes of play, then added an insurance goal in the 20th minute.

After two consecutive losses, West Van is now just two points back of Pegasus with an 8-1-2 (won-tied-loss). Pegasus, at 9-0-1, has a game on West Van and will host the last-place Vancouver Olympics (2-2-5) tomorrow evening (Friday) at Newton Athletic Park. Kickoff is at 8:45 p.m.

CCBRT United was in Langley last Friday night, where they upset the Langley Hurricanes 3-2 to climb into seventh place at 3-1-7.

Milad Rahmati opened the scoring just a few minutes into the match, putting his own rebound into the Langley goal.

The Hurricanes tied the score before halftime, but CCBRT struck for two quick goals after the break. Rahmati headed home a cross from Yassin Essa in the 55th minute, then Rahmati set up Essa for the winning goal for the Surrey side.

CCBRT will visit the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Wolves Saturday afternoon. The Wolves are in fifth place at 4-1-4.

The Surrey United Firefighters were blanked 4-0 by Inter FC Saturday in Vancouver, falling to 2-4-4. United has lost three consecutive games, all by shutout.

Inter FC climbed out of the Premier Division basement with the the win, and are now just a point back of 10th place Firefighters. Surrey United will play in Vancouver again tomorrow (Friday) night against Croatia SC, the league’s third-place team at 5-2-2.
