Tamanawis Secondary student Reetu Johal will join the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds women's soccer program.

Reetu Johal has agreed to join the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds women’s soccer team for the upcoming 2014 Canada West season.

A midfielder from Surrey, Johal is a graduate of Tamanawis Secondary and is a standout with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Elite Program. She was on championship-winning teams at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que. and the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“Her playing experience and ability matches our standards and she will make an immediate impact with our program,” said UBC assistant coach Mark Eckerle of Johal. The Thunderbirds finished fourth in the Canada West playoffs last season after a 8-1-3 (won-lost-tied) regular season.

“I chose to attend UBC because of its fine academic programs as well as its remarkable women’s soccer team,” said Johal in a press release. “Also, I get to have the on campus living experience while staying close to home.”
