Juniors strive for World Series

Little League team in Alberta after winning B.C. title in North Vancouver

Whalley Little League has sent its Junior (13-14 year-olds) all-star team to the national championships this week in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Whalley won three consecutive games in the five-team double-knockout playoff in North Vancouver to get to the final, facing the host Mt. Seymour team which had already lost one game.

Needing just one more victory to clinch the championship, Whalley lost 8-7 last Thursday before blasting Mt. Seymour 16-2 in five innings Friday evening.

Whalley began play at the nationals this morning with a game against the champions from Quebec. The winner of the seven-team tournament will go on to the World Series tournament in Taylor, Michigan Aug. 12-18.
