For the third straight year, the Fraser Valley Phantoms are the undisputed queens of B.C. female midget hockey following a sweep of the Thompson Okanagan Rockets earlier this month.
The Phantoms opened the best-of-three midget AAA championship series with a 2-0 win
Chelsea Wilson and Kaely McMurty each scored once for Fraser Valley, while Valencia Yordanov picked up the shutout in goal for the Phantoms.
Game 2 was another tight affair with Kirsten Martin’s power-play marker late in the opening frame standing up as the only goal in a 1-0 Phantoms win.
Yordanov was once again unbeatable guarding the Fraser Valley goal.
The Phantoms now advance to the 2014 Esso Cup national championship tournament in Stoney Creek, Ontario from April 20 to 23.
