The Delta Sungod Swim Club hosted a Lower Mainland Regional meet at the Sungod Recreation Centre last weekend, and members of the home team didn’t disappoint.

Sixteen Sungod swimmers won gold medals, seven others were on the medal podium, and five swam personal best times in every event.

“It was great to see all elements of the club come together for a well-run meet,” says head coach Kurt Murphy, noting more than 220 swimmers participated.  “We had officials coordinated, the venue was well-managed by city staff, and we had plenty of volunteers to help run things.

“We had many sponsors for the event and the donations were amazing.”

Gold medalists were Hailey Penner, 11, Reece Landry, 11, Cayden Dececco, 12, Meghan Loshinen, 12, Noah Landry, 13, Cory Bullock, 13, Elena Penner, 13, Maddison Lupien, 13, Logan Warkentin, 14, Nick Kidd, 15, Hector Hernandez, 15, Milan Micic, 15, Jaya Castillo, 16, Alix Main, 16, Caralyn Vossen, 16 and Connor Warkentin, 17.

Lauren Vossen, Caralyn Vossen, Hailey Penner, Jaya Castillo and Cory Bullock all swam every event to personal best times.

Sungod members will be busy in February, with swimmers having qualified for the short course AAA championships in Kamloops, the short course AA championships in Chilliwack and the Canadian Western National Championships in New Westminster.
