His success with Five Hole for Food is established, and now North Vancouver's Richard Loat is turning his focus to the world's biggest game.
The SFU grad and FHFF founder has helped raise 500,000 pounds of food since 2010 with his cross-Canada road hockey tour – bring a stick, your shoes, and a can of food, those are the rules – and he's set to launch to 'Footy For Food' with a match on September 15 in London, England.
The first game – in the English capital – supports the Westminster Food Bank, and the location is yet to be determined.
"Footy for Food (FFF) is a national, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization with a bold, enterprising, and entrepreneurial approach aimed at raising food and awareness for Britons across the country," the tour's website reads.
"Armed with national partners, the unwavering support of volunteers, and an identity born from social media, FFF brings together communities across Britain by using football as a vehicle for social change, and reaching a new generation of social entrepreneurs."
The concept is the same as Five Hole for Food – bring a contribution, and you're in.
Starting in 2014, the Footy For Food tour will swing through Northern Ireland's Belfast, then to Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland, and finally through Liverpool, Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, and London.
